SMS GupShup Mobile Tricks

GupShup, with more than 30 million users, is India’s Twitter and Facebook combined. The country has over 600 million wireless phone users but only 9 million broadband users, giving more people access to SMS messages than to TV or the Internet. GupShup, a Hindi term for chitchat, allows users to subscribe to a person or company’s feed and receive messages through SMS. You can create your own SMS GupShup group to keep in touch with friends and family, or, if you have a company, you can use the group to send advertisements to your subscribers. Companies such as Pepsico have used SMS GupShup to send polls directly to their subscribers.

Start Your Own Group

Keep in touch with friends and family by setting up your own group. To create the group, send an SMS to 567678 with the text “CREATE” plus the name of your group name. For example, if you want to create a group name called MyFamily, send an SMS with the text “CREATE MyFamily.” You can invite new members by sending an SMS to 567678 with the text “INVITE” plus the cell numbers of the people you want to invite separated by a comma.

Control Your Privacy: Stop SMS GupShup Messages

If the number of messages you receive is getting overwhelming, you can disconnect from GupShup’s network by sending an SMS to 567678 with the text “DND.” You can resume the messages by sending an SMS to the same number with the text
“DND OFF.”

Send SMS To Your GupShup Group For Free

Log on to SMS GupShup’s website and send SMS messages to the members of your group from the Web interface. This way you won’t need minutes to pay for the messages. GupShup’s website also allows you to connect to Google Talk and use the chat window to send messages to your group.
